Over 100 underprivileged children shared the spirit of Christmas with law enforcement personnel Saturday, for the 22nd Annual Bullhead City Shop with a Cop program.
“It’s a memorable morning for not only the kids, the officers look forward to this event as well,” said Shop with a Cop Board President Andrew Sevillano. “The program gives our local children a positive experience with police and it also helps make their Christmas a little brighter.”
The children, who were chosen to be part of the program through the local school system, started the morning by having breakfast at the Elks Lodge. They then rode with officers to Wal-Mart in a parade of patrol cars equipped with lights and sirens.
Officers, employees and volunteers from the Bullhead City Police Department, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Mohave County Search and Rescue, Bullhead City Fire Department, Bullhead City Police Auxiliary, Nevada Highway Patrol, Bullhead City Animal Care and Welfare, Mohave Accelerated Learning Center’s Key Club, Mohave High School’s Air Force Junior ROTC, DL Limousine and River Valley High School’s Soccer Team helped each child spend a $100 gift card at Wal-Mart and get their picture taken with Santa.
“They can buy whatever they want; clothes, shoes or toys. Some children even buy presents for their family members,” Sevillano added. “It’s a really heartwarming morning.”
To make this annual event possible; community members, organizations and businesses donate money to the Shop With A Cop program.
